8. Elevating the Terrain
Next, you should elevate your terrain to something above sea-level. In the
left hand menu, you’ll see a set of five icons. The second one from
the top is the elevation tool. Click on it. Underneath the set of five icons,
you’ll see a size option. The size option allows you to define the
size of your brush, ranging from 1-21. For now, select 21. Do not worry
about the alpha option for now. The VERY bottom menu bar is the actual elevation.
At the moment, you can select anything from -40 – 1000. Keep in mind
that 0 is sea-level, and anything below -40 will generally give clipping
errors. I recommend you select an elevation of 10, and elevate your entire
map. With this in mind, you can play around with the elevation tool to give
your map a sense of ruggedness.
9. Placing Your Bases
This is one of the trickiest parts with Giants Edit. In the left hand menu,
there is an icon with a house on a hill. This is the very last icon out
of five. This icon is the object editor, as it allows you to place, move,
and delete objects. Click on it. Now right click anywhere on your map. A
menu should pop up with only one option available, Create Object from List
>. Highlight “Create Object from List” and a sub-menu should
appear. Select Bases > and select Mecc Base. This places the basic mecc
base at where your mouse cursor is. You can move around this base by clicking
and dragging it while having the object button selected in the left hand
menu. You can repeat this procedure to place the second mecc team base.
10. Placing the Spawn Points
Spawn points are where a mecc appears after dying or joining a game. You
can have multiple spawn points for each team, but for now let’s focus
on one. Right click again, Create Object from List > Spawn Points >
Mecc Team 1. Move this spawn point next to a base. Repeat this procedure,
except this time placing a Mecc Team 2 spawn point at the other base.
11. Testing Your Map
Testing your map is the easiest part. Select “File” from the
top menu bar, File > Save and Launch Map (GMM).
