What is Giants by: King -- Page 1 - Page 2 - Page 3 Giants 103 - The Beat: Goes on and on and on Giants should be dead, or so many people have proclaimed over the past year. But yet it is not, a testament to the power of creative coding and an enwrapping multiplayer. Don't believe me? Check out the Gamespy lobby to see how many people still play Giants. On average, you can spot about 30-40 players engaged in combat. If it were not for some key people who have added to the overall experience of Giants, it would probably be dead. But, thanks to people like BadBrain, Nullpointer, and Infinity7, we have custom maps, patches, and a ton of modifications that cannot be stopped from flowing out of the community. Planet Moon dropped the game after a year or two, but the fans have not. Although announced early in the release of Giants that a map-making tool would be released, Planet Moon dropped the idea and the community was stuck with the default maps, only to be played over and over. However, Giants Mod Manager is a third party tool that allows players to download and play on custom maps. This utility goes hand in hand with Giants Edit, which gives players the ability to create custom maps. Interplay, as last checked on 8/15/03, is selling Giants for a measly two bucks plus shipping. You can visit their website at http://www.interplay.com. Once you have obtained the game, you can join in the multiplayer action with Gamespy, available at http://www.gamespy.com. Give Giants a chance and your time will not be wasted. |
