Giants Version 1.5 Progress ReportPosted by Z0PharX on Sun. Mar 08, 2009
It's been a good three weeks since the initial announcement of 1.5 was made - those of you that have been following the development thread in the forum should be fairly well aware of the progress that has been made, but for the rest of you lot here are a few highlights from the now absurdly long list of changes already completed in 1.5:

• Significant improvements to Reaper movement prediction in multiplayer when jumping or swimming, some missing animations fixed.
• Fixed projectile collision detection on a large number of objects.
• Gyrocopters and reaperskis now deal a small amount of splash damage to nearby enemies when destroyed.
• Meccs can now steal gyrocopters belonging to the enemy team.
• Kabuto can now pick up and throw small-to-medium sized palm trees.
• Full GMM Integration
• Added full support for 3-team Mecc vs. Mecc vs. Mecc games.
• Weapon (un)availability can now be set by the host of the game through a menu in the multiplayer options window.
• Vimp spawning can now be toggled on or off by the host in game.

...and quite a bit more - if you haven't been checking the thread, I highly suggest that you do so by clicking the Patch 1.5 image to the right.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto 1.5 (no, really)Posted by Z0PharX on Sun. Feb 15, 2009
Sit down and fasten your metaphorical seatbelts, this is not a drill.

Giants: Citizen Kabuto 1.5 is in active development.

There is no smoke and not a single mirror. Progress has already began and is continuing on with a great deal of speed and momentum. Nearly every major bug that has plagued 1.4 has been fixed, and now further direction is needed.

What needs to be fixed, modified, corrected, tweaked, or otherwise changed?

Bug fixes and balance corrections are the goal here, as well as any and all reasonable feature requests - and before anyone asks, no there probably will not be any bloom or motion blur.

Details, suggestions, and discussion regarding the upcoming patch can be found in this thread.

GameRanger: a new place to play GiantsPosted by Scott Kevill on Fri. Nov 14, 2008
Just thought I'd let you all know about a new multiplayer network I've created for playing Giants: Citizen Kabuto online called GameRanger.

Basically, GameRanger makes it quick and easy to play your friends online.

It has full lobby support for over 500 different games and demos (including Giants, of course), without the hassles and headaches that usually happen with network connections (eg. routers & firewalls).

I'm really excited to be releasing it, and hope it helps boost the Giants community by allowing people to play that were unable to until now due to problems with opening ports, etc.

You can download it at www.GameRanger.com

Giants was a dear favourite of mine many years ago on the Mac. GameRanger now supports PC online gaming as well, so hopefully it will stir some interest again.

Clan NMRPosted by Puglin. on Mon. Oct 01, 2007
Hey everyone, this might be too minor for the noticeboard, in which case I'll remove it.

Clan NMR has been going for a few days now, and already we have many members, like TrustKi||, Exploderman and Glude.

This clan was established by me in order to teach people new to Giants how to play, and therefore further the future of the game.

If ANYONE at all would like to sign up, you are welcome to. We have a need for Translators (we already have TrustKi|| to translate Portuguese, so if anyone out there speaks English and another language fluently, PLEASE sign up today). Look at my post in the forums under general chat (the post is: "CLAN [NMR] IS OPEN! ALL-EVEN NOOBS-WELCOME!"). Tournaments WILL be organized once we gain enough members (we have just about enough already).

GiantsHook 1.0 and GRM 1.01 ReleasePosted by Z0PharX on Wed. Aug 01, 2007
The first release version of GiantsHook will be uploaded to GiantsWD shortly. In addition, a new version of GRM will also be uploaded. This version fixes a few flaws that the original version of GRM had and is required for several of GiantsHook's features.

GRM2.0 NewsPosted by Z0PharX on Fri. Mar 23, 2007
GRM IS DEAD.

With that said, we'd like to announce the upcoming release of something better.

GiantsHook is an ongoing project that utilizes the power of DLL hooks to allow us to change the core behavior of Giants on multiple levels. Utilizing this power, the following features have either been completed, or are in active development

• Dynamic shadows on just about every object in the game.
• Dynamic lighting cast by projectiles, explosions, and other similar things.
• Further enhanced water effects.
• More high resolution textures.
• A slew of assorted fixes for everything ranging from the game crashing when minimized in windowed mode, to making the game properly generate mipmaps.
• A new Giants.ini file allows you to pick and chose which individual features you want to use at any given time.

With that said, we're looking for people to help us test it. By test it, I mean actually test it. If you've been around for a while, and are known to be completely trustworthy feel free to drop us a line expressing that you'd like to take part - but please don't bother unless you have some interest in actually helping.

Want to make some suggestions as to something you'd like to see in it? Feel free, but keep them reasonable.
